The UW SMPH Human Proteomics Program (HPP), established in 2006 through support from the SMPH Wisconsin Partnership Program, is dedicated to addressing the needs of researchers and clinicians at UW-Madison in the rapidly growing field of proteomics and metabolomics. Proteomics and metabolomics enable researchers to obtain real-time information on a person's physiological status leading to an in-depth understanding of the causes of diseases, which has great potential for precision medicine.
The HPP has three major activities: Innovation/technology development, Education/Training and Collaboration.
Innovations focus on mass spectrometry (MS) as its primary technology due to its combination of general applicability, unprecedented sensitivity and high-resolution analysis of proteins from biological tissues/fluids.
Education and training support researchers through workshops collaborative projects and the HPP User Facility. The User Facility is located on the second floor of the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research Building (WIMR) and is equipped with high-end ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometers and highly qualified staff to provide collaboration and service to investigators dedicated to support the clinical and translational projects in SMPH with a special focus on precision medicine.
