Yanlong Zhu, PhD

Yanlong

Yanlong received his BS from University of Science and Technology of China. He came to Wayne State University to pursue his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, focusing on IRMPD action spectroscopy, computational chemistry and instrumentation. He joined the Ge group in 2018 and is focusing on top-down proteomics including both method development of multi-dimensional liquid chromatography strategies and instrumentation to implement new tandem mass spectrometry on the ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometer. He likes hiking and watching movies.

Kent Wenger
(Emeritus)

Kent

Kent received his B.S. in computer sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1990. Kent joined the lab in September 2018, and is working on the development of the MASH Explorer software, with plans to also work on metabolomics software in the future. He grew up in Green Bay, and has called Madison home for three decades. In his free time, Kent enjoys cycling and international travel (preferably combined); model railroading; long walks with his wife, Sue; and playing with his miniature schnauzer, Theo.

Zhan Gao, Post-doc

Zhan Gao

Zhan received his BS from Beijing University of Chemical Technology. He moved to Zhejiang University where he received his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, focusing on the use of mass spectrometry to identify glycan isomers. In 2022, he joined Ge group and currently focuses on high sensitivity single cell proteomics. He enjoys spending time with friends, watching movies, and going to the gym.

Emily Reasoner, 6th Year

Emily

Emily received her BA in Chemistry from Luther College. She joined the Chemistry PhD program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019 as a materials chemistry student. She is interested in novel applications of nanomaterials in biological systems, bridging analytical chemistry, materials science, and chemical biology. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with friends, her dogs, and listening to music.

Kalina Rossler, 5th Year
Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology

Kalina

Kalina (Kali) received her B.S. in biochemistry and B.A. in vocal performance from Calvin University in 2020. She is part of the Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology Ph.D. track at U.W. Madison. Kalina's research interests include the holistic integration of molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, and proteomics to understand human cardiac disease. Outside of the lab, Kali enjoys cooking, singing, running, biking, petting dogs, and quoting the Office with her husband.

Holden Rogers, 4th Year

Holden Rodgers

Holden received his B.S. in Biochemistry and B.A. in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2021. He joined the Chemistry PhD program in Fall of 2021 as part of the Analytical path. His current research focuses on the development and application of mass spectrometry (MS)-based top-down proteomics methods to characterize proteins that are critical to cardiac function and disease. His hobbies include playing golf and watching ice hockey.

Hsin-Ju (Ruby) Chan

Hsin-Ju (Ruby) received her B.S. in Chemistry from National Tsing Hua University and M.S. in Chemistry from National Taiwan University. She joined the Chemistry Ph.D. program at UW-Madison in 2022 as an analytical chemistry student. She is currently interested in native top-down mass spectrometry and the application of nanomaterials in proteomics research. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with her friends.

Matthew Fischer

Matthew received a BA in Chemistry from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2022. He joined the UW Madison Chemistry PhD program as an analytical chemistry student in Fall 2022. He is currently interested in native protein separations. Outside of work, Matthew enjoys playing tennis and golf, learning new songs on the guitar, and reading history books.

Outside of the lab, Mallory enjoys collecting plants, scratch cooking, and spending time outside (when it's warm).

Liam Bandura

Liam received his BS in Biology & Chemistry at Marquette University in 2022. In 2023, Liam joined the Chemical Biology Ph.D. path at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His current research interests involve the application of mass-spectrometry and chemical biology techniques to probe molecular pathways to better understand them and their impact on disease. Outside the lab, Liam enjoys cooking, coffee, and a good cross-word puzzle.

Andrew Perciaccante

Andrew received his BS in chemistry from the University of Georgia in 2022. After graduating, he was a postbaccalaureate researcher at the National Cancer Institute for a year. He joined the Analytical Path of the Chemistry PhD program at UW-Madison in the Fall of 2023. His research interests include developing and applying multiomic techniques to study disease. Outside of the lab, Andrew enjoys running, hiking, and watching hockey.

Bella received her BS from Indiana University in 2024. She joined the UW- Madison Chemistry PhD program in 2024 as an analytical student. Thomas Weir

Thomas received his B.S. in Biochemistry from Indiana University in 2022. He then worked as a Scientist in Indianapolis at Eli Lilly until the Fall of 2024, when he joined the Chemistry PhD program at UW-Madison. He is currently interested in separations development and top-down mass spectrometry. In his free time, Thomas enjoys traveling to national parks, playing pickleball, and watching Formula 1 racing.

Kwame Osei

Kwame received his BSc in Chemistry from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. He received his Msc in Chemistry from the Illinois State University in 2024. Kwame joined the Chemistry PhD program at UW-Madison in the Fall of 2024 as an Analytical Chemistry student. He loves to play football (soccer) and watch soccer games in his free time.

Scott Price

Scott Price

Scott earned his B.S. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh in May of 2021. He then joined the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health M.D. program in the fall of 2021. He is working on the lab’s cardiac troponin assay along with other various clinical projects. In his free time, he enjoys running, weight lifting, and all kinds of sports.

Jason is a 4th-year undergraduate student majoring in Chemistry and Genetics & Genomics. He works with Dr. Zhan Gao to analyze top-down proteomics data in the lab. In routine life, he enjoys playing basketball, playing music, and playing board games with friends.
